New Interventional Radiology Service Now Open at Canopy Imaging Ormiston
Canopy Imaging is pleased to introduce our new Interventional Radiology (IR)service at Canopy Imaging Ormiston, led by Interventional Radiologist Dr Snehal Patel.
Located within the Ormiston healthcare hub, our purpose-built clinic complements Canopy Imaging's diagnostic imaging services and Canopy Cancer Care, while working alongside the specialist and endoscopy services at Ormiston Hospital.
Interventional Radiology uses imaging guidance to perform minimally invasive procedures for diagnosis and treatment. These procedures can often be used as an alternative to more invasive approaches, providing patients with access to specialised treatments close to home.
What is Interventional Radiology?
Interventional Radiology is a specialised area of medicine that uses imaging, such as ultrasound, X-ray and CT, to guide procedures with precision. It is used to diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions, often through small incisions or image-guided techniques.
This approach enables doctors to target specific areas of the body while minimising the impact on surrounding tissues.
Interventional Radiology services available at Ormiston
Our Ormiston service provides access to a growing range of image-guided procedures, including:
- Image-guided biopsy and fine needle aspiration (FNA)
- PICC and Portacath insertion, removal and assessment
- Pleural and abdominal drainage procedures, including long-term drainage catheters
- IVC filter procedures
- Image-guided pain procedures and nerve blocks
- Uterine artery embolisation (UAE) for uterine fibroids
- Varicocele embolisation
- Image-guided ablation of ovarian endometriomas
Meet Dr Snehal Patel
Dr Snehal Patel is an experienced Consultant Interventional Radiologist who trained in the United Kingdom and completed an Interventional Radiology fellowship at McGill University in Montreal.
Before moving to New Zealand in 2020, she worked as a Consultant Interventional Radiologist at the Royal London Hospital. Alongside her role at Canopy Imaging, Dr Patel also works at Auckland City Hospital and North Shore Hospital.
