What is Osteoporosis?

Osteoporosis is a condition where bones become thinner and weaker, increasing the risk of fractures.

Am I at risk?

You may be at increased risk of low bone density if you:

are female
are over 50 or post-menopausal
have a small or thin frame
have a family history of osteoporosis
have a history of anorexia nervosa or bulimia
take certain medications , (e.g. steroids, anticonvulsants, thyroxine)

have low testosterone levels (in men)
have a sedentary lifestyle

drink excessive alcohol

have a diet low in calcium
