Improving Security and Access to IntelePACS

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for Referrers

At Canopy Imaging, protecting patient information is a responsibility we take seriously. To align with evolving healthcare security requirements and industry expectations, we're introducing Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for referrer access to patient images and reports.

We're doing this with you, not to you: we'll provide guided support and clear steps.

Security is evolving, but your workload isn't: we'll keep the process simple and minimise additional administration.

Protecting patients and practices: MFA helps safeguard patient privacy and referrer reputation.

What is changing?

  • MFA will be required when accessing patient images and reports.
  • If you use InteleViewer, you'll need to upgrade to the latest supported version. Older versions will no longer be supported once MFA is enabled.
  • We strongly encourage you to switch to InteleConnect at the same time — the browser-based access platform, with no software installation required, giving secure access to images and reports from anywhere.

Why are we making this change?

  • Better protection of patient information.
  • Alignment with healthcare security expectations from Health NZ and DIANZ.
  • Reduced risk of unauthorised access.

Setting up MFA

A full step-by-step guide with screenshots is available as a PDF

MFA setup guide

In brief:

  1. Download an authenticator app (we recommend Microsoft Authenticator or Google Authenticator).
  2. Log in to PACS as usual with your username and password.
  3. Follow the prompt to add your account, usually by scanning a QR code.
  4. Enter the 6-digit code from the app to confirm setup.

What to expect

Once set up, you won't need to verify every time you log in — sessions stay active for 24 hours per device.

The authenticator app only generates a secure code. It doesn't track your location or access your contacts, photos or other data on your phone.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is MFA?

MFA adds a simple additional verification step when you sign in.

Do I need an authenticator app?

Yes. We recommend Microsoft Authenticator or Google Authenticator.

Will this change how I refer patients?

No. Referral processes remain unchanged.

Will this change access to reports?

No. Your access remains available once MFA is configured.

Will this affect any other systems I use?

No. MFA applies only to your PACS/InteleViewer/InteleConnect login — it doesn't affect any other software or systems.

What if my practice currently shares one login between several people?

Each person will need their own individual account once MFA is enabled — shared logins won't be supported. Contact us to set up additional accounts.

What if I don't have a smartphone?

Contact our support team — we can talk through alternative options with you.

What if I use InteleViewer?

You'll need to upgrade to the latest supported version before MFA is enabled. If you're not sure which version you're on, contact your local representative.

Why should I switch to InteleConnect?

It's browser-based, requires no software installation, and gives you access to images and reports from anywhere. We strongly encourage referrers to make the switch alongside MFA enrolment — see the InteleConnect setup guide above.

What if I have an urgent access issue at go-live?

Contact our PACS admin team directly on [PACS admin direct line/email — to be inserted].

Where can I get help?

Contact our support team or your local representative. We'll provide guides, FAQs and direct assistance throughout the rollout.
