About

Martin is a graduate of the University of Auckland School of Medicine and completed his specialist radiology training in Auckland. He subsequently undertook fellowships in abdominal imaging and emergency radiology at the University of Washington in Seattle, where he remained for nearly 20 years as a subspecialist radiologist, researcher, educator and clinical leader. During that time, he became Professor and a Vice Chair of the Department of Radiology, with leadership responsibilities including imaging informatics.

 Martin has held a range of clinical, academic, and professional leadership roles in New Zealand and internationally. Alongside clinical radiology, his areas of expertise include clinical governance, clinical and imaging informatics, artificial intelligence, and healthcare transformation. As Chief Medical Officer of Canopy Imaging and Canopy Healthcare, he works across the group to support high-quality clinical care, strong clinical governance, and the effective use of technology to improve healthcare delivery.

 He has also had a substantial academic career in medical imaging, including major competitively funded research programmes. He has published extensively in the medical imaging literature, authored and co-authored numerous scientific papers and abstracts, edited medical imaging textbooks, and presented at major healthcare meetings internationally. He continues to contribute to research focused on improving the quality, safety and efficiency of radiology services.

 Martin is committed to maintaining high clinical standards and ensuring that patients and referrers receive safe, effective, and high-quality services across Canopy Healthcare. In his spare time, he is drawn to the water, boating, and exploring Aotearoa’s coastline.
